Abstract
Organo-silicon compounds are prepared by reacting a siloxane which contains a chlormethyl radical linked to at least one of the silicons by carbon to silicon bond with magnesium in anhydrous ether, and then reacting the product with trimethyl silicon chloride to yield the desired compound analogous to said siloxane in which trimethyl silyl radicals are substituted for the chlorine in the chlormethyl radicals. The siloxane may be a hexa-organo disiloxane in which at least one of the organic radicals is a mono-chlormethyl radical. In an example, monochlormethyl - pentamethyldisiloxane is reacted with magnesium in anhydrous ether and the reaction product is then reacted with trimethylsilicon chloride to yield trimethylsilylmethylpentamethyldisiloxane.
