Abstract

620,850. Automatic control systems. HOLLYER, E. B., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 20, 1946, No. 28265. [Class 38 (iv)] Constant speed.-An electrical speed-responsive means responsive only to variations of speed above and below upper and lower limits of a range of speed, comprises a tachometer generator 1 coupled with a member 4 whose speed is to be controlled or indicated and a shunt excited vibrator or other voltage regulator 7 controlling the output voltage to a constant value within the range of speed, but incapable of further regulation when the speed rises above or falls below the limits of the range. The voltage generated may be opposed by an equal voltage source 5 within the speed limits and the difference voltage outside the limits used to excite a control winding 6 of the driven member 4, which may be a metadyne generator. Alternatively the load 6 may be an input resistance of a control amplifier.
