Abstract
619,999. Rotary cutters; wood carving by cutting. WATTS, S., and CHAMBERS, A. Jan. 1, 1947, No. 12. [Class 145 (i)] A rotary tool for recesses of sharp internalangled outline, and adapted for rotation in a drilling &c. machine and used in conjunction with a template, comprises a plurality of legs 43 (usually two) splayed apart, the free end portion of at least one leg having an external lengthwise cutting edge 46 of angle capable of entering the internal angles of the template 39 under the spring action of the legs. The lower end of the legs may be narrowed to form shoulders 49 which serve as a depth gauge as they contact the surface of the template, Fig. 13, whilst additional cutting edges 48 (52) at the extreme lower faces may also be provided. In the form shown, Figs. 6-11, two steel bars 40 are rivetted or otherwise joined together at 41 to form a shank 42, the lower portions 43 being splayed out and backed-off at 46 (51), 48 (52) to form cutting edges, the angle 47 of each side cutting edge being less than the smallest acute angle of the template. The tool may also be used for cutting openings through sheet material instead of mere recesses.
