Abstract
619,853. Obtaining fibre from sisal leaves. RUTHERFOORD, M. E. R., (Representative of RUTHERFOORD, E. D.). Aug. 21, 1946, No. 21328/45. [Class 120(i)] Fibre is produced from sisal leaves, by crushing them between rolls so as to avoid bruising or other damage to the fibre, retting the crushed leaves in an alkaline solution at a temperature of about 99 ‹F. and washing the retted fibre. The leaves may be crushed between corrugated rolls having shallow flutings, parallel to their axes, about “-inch deep and of 3-inch pitch, and then passed between smooth rolls. The washed fibre may be dried and brushed or finished by dry rolling. Freshlycut leaves may be heated on the field, a portable crushing machine being used. Specifications 10465/05, [Class 120], 367,116 and 462,512 are referred to.
