Abstract

[Class 19] [Also in Group XXII] Mechanism for positioning brush-stocks in a drilling machine (see Group XXII) may be incorporated in a machine adapted both for drilling and tufting the stocks. The brushstocks are secured to a table 11, Fig. 5, which is positioned by movement of a pin 35 engaging recesses 37 in an endless track in a member 36, the pin and track member being separated against the pressure of a spring 34 by a crank, and the track being so sloped between recesses that the pressure of the spring causes relative movement between the pin 35 and the track. The table 11 is carried on four extensible rods 12 ball-jointed at both ends, sockets being provided in a vertically-adjustable base 13 so that the rods may be mounted to converge in any desired manner to adjust the angular displacement of the table and ensure that each hole is at substantially the same distance from the tool during tufting. A support 20, mounted on rods 18 to swing laterally with the table, carries a slide 22 connected to the table by a bolt 24, Fig. 4, mounted for a small degree of universal play to allow for slight differences in the movements of the table and supports. Carried in a T-slot in the slide 22 is the spring loaded pin 35 engaging the recesses 37. As the tool-head ascends, one of a number of fixed pins 40, Fig. 10, pushes the pin 35 from one recess onto the incline S, from where it enters the adjacent recess as the tool descends. The work-holder may reciprocate instead of the tool. Two or more pins 35 may be provided to follow similar tracks simultaneously.
