[Class 94 (i)] A method of wrapping bodies of revolution consists in loosely enveloping the body in a sheet of wrapping material, and smoothing out the material by causing the wrapped body to turn on itself in a pocketlike recess whereby the surface of the body slides frictionally against the surface of the recess while being pressed against it, so that the wrapping is closely applied to the object with a smooth finish. An arm 1, Fig. 1, rotates with a powerdriven shaft 2 and carries a detachably mounted and interchangeable member 5 of hard composition such as fibre, in which is cut a pocket 6 to receive an object 7 already loosely wrapped and brought into position by pincers 8 of a mechanism not shown. The pocket 6 in longitudinal section is substantially of the shape of the object below the median plane thereof, but in transverse section it widens out slightly. During rotation of the arm 1 from the position shown to a lowermost position where the object 711 is delivered to a chute 11, the object is in contact with a lining 9, of sponge rubber or the like, or a stationary member 10, whereby the object is rotated about itself in frictional contact with the pocket 6. If the object is a bottle 12, Fig. 3, the pocket may be in two parts 5a, 5b, the latter resiliently mounted for slight movement relative to the part 5a, to avoid breakage of the mechanism. The object could be placed manually in the pocket 6, and turned thereon by bringing manually into contact with it a rubber covered member moved' backwards and forwards.
