Abstract
618,190. Rivets. CARR FASTENER CO., Ltd., and PARKIN, L. Oct. 31, 1946. No. 32359. [Class 89 (i)] Relates to bifurcated rivets for connecting parts when only one side of the joint is accessible and consists in providing points of weakness in the legs to cause them to splay outwards on application of axial pressure. As applied to connecting the seat 11, Fig. 4, of a chair to the framing 12, axial pressure on the head 13 after the ends of the legs 15 have contacted the far side of the tube 12 causes the legs to bend at the weakened parts 16 forming outwardly diverging parts 14 that exercise clamping pressure towards the head. When there is no natural abutment for the legs 15 an auxiliary flanged member 8, Fig. 1, is inserted in the apertured members 1, 2 to be connected with an end 10 to abut the legs which on collapsing spread through lateral slots 9.
