Abstract
617,658. Apparatus for incasing articles by plastic moulding. BENN, A., and ALLEN, H. G. Oct. 11. 1946, No. 30394. [Class 87 (ii)] Sleeves 8, 9 support a hollow article 22 in spaced relation to a core member 4 and are retractable under the action of the pressure of the moulding material injected into the mould. When polystyrene is forced through a duct 3a formed in a core 3, 4, 5, into the cylindrical moulding cavity C, it flows around the article 22 and between the bore in the article and the core member 4, until sufficient pressure is built up to force back the sleeves 8, 9, against the action of springs 10, 11, whereupon plunger 16, 17, drop in behind flanges 14, 15, to hold the sleeves in the retracted position. The two-part mould 1, 2, is then dismantled. Two protruding arms 23, 24, of the article 22, e.g., a coil such as a choke used in electronic equipment, serve to locate the article axially of the bore by means of hollow screws 30, 31. The bore in the article need not be axially disposed or penetrate the article completely. More than one such bore or cavity can be provided for by the provision of suitable core and retractable supporting members.
