617,452. Razor blades. PAL BLADE CO., Inc. Oct. 1, 1946, No. 29265. Convention date. May 9, 1940. [Class 30] The cutting edges 16 of a rectangular doubleedge razor blade flexible transversely and having a central longitudinal opening are defined by flat cutting faces 15 spaced from the central flat body portion 11 of the blade, and each side of the blade is hollow ground to form channels 14 spaced from the central opening, the width of a channel being substantially twice that of a cutting face and the maximum distance between the cutting faces being less than half the thickness of the body portion. The blade is made by first removing a large amount of steel 18, a second grinding removing a small amount 19 and thus developing very little heat, whereby the temper of the steel at the cutting edge is maintained.
