Abstract

617,425. Electric follow-up systems. PRECISION DEVELOPMENTS CO., Ltd., and OLAH, G. March 23, 1946, Nos. 9032 and 37743. [Class 40 (i)] A reversible servomotor arrangement has a brake which is released during operation by two of three windings, one in parallel with the armature and the others each in parallel with one of the field windings. A controlling member 15 is attached to a spindle 11 carrying two toothed wheels 9, 10, insulated from each other and connected through brushes 7, 8 to opposed field windings 4, 5 respectively, and thence through the armature 1 to mains lead A. A loosely meshing gear 13 is mounted on the controlled shaft 14 and electrically connected through brush 12 to mains lead B. When member 15 is moved from rest in either direction, one or other gear 9, 10 touches gear 13 and completes a circuit through the appropriate winding 4, 5 to drive the motor in the corresponding direction. Controlled member 16 thus follows member 15 until the latter stops and gears 9, 10, 13 break the drive circuit. A friction brake 18 normally holds the motor shaft 14, but may be released by windings 20, 21, 22 connected in parallel with windings 5, 4 and the armature respectively. With this arrangement, release of the brake is always effected by two windings in series, which between them have the full mains voltage across them, irrespective of the actual voltage drop across the armature and field individually Specification 556,287 is referred to.
