Abstract

617,031. Stapling. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., NASMITH, J. I., and KIRBY, W. Sept. 25, 1946, No. 28692. [Class 89 (iii)] A machine for forming and driving two staples simultaneously comprises a vertically reciprocating upper former 1 and driver 2 and laterally slidable lower formers 23. The upper former 1 descends to shape severed portions of wire E heid in slots in the lower formers 23 by spring- pressed pivoted grippers 25, then the doublelimbed driver 2 pushes the formers 23 outwards by the interengagement of inclines 38, 39 to release the staples which drop on to pivoted supporting members 24 before being driven. Inclines 42 on the driver operate through slides 12, rocking members 17 and spring-urged plungers 19 to open the grippers 25 to receive the next lengths of wire. The grippers are re-closed and returned to their inner positions on ascent of the driver. Specification 361,633 is referred to.
