Abstract

617,023. Luggage holders. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd., and WESTCOTT, F. Oct. 4, 1946, No. 29592. [Class 103 (ii)] A spare wheel carrier comprises a tray 3 pivoted at 4 which forms with a part of the vehicle a receptacle for the spare wheel, the opening and closing movements of the tray being controlled by a flexible cable 5 and toggle lover mechanism 11. The cable 5 may be continuous and any stretch may be taken up by an adjustable cleat 6 and is led over guides 7, 8 and tubes 9, 10 to opposite arms of a lever 11 pivoted at 12. The lever 11 is fixed to a hand lever 13 in the boot held in the closed position by a clip 14. Release of the hand lever from the clip and rotation in an anticlockwise direction uncrosses the cable 5 to lower the tray. The tray may be opened by spring pressure and a cross-bar 16 at the top of the container presses on the tyre in the closed position of the tray. A guard 17 around the tray prevents entry of mud &c.
