Abstract

616,343. Gas-turbine plant. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. July 13, 1945, No. 17964. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1944. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XIII] In a combined furnace and gas turbine of the kind not comprising a steam-raising boiler, in which a portion of the heat of the furnace gases is given up to an external heat consumer without raising steam, a first portion of the exhaust gas of the turbine is used as combustion air in the furnace, a second portion of the exhaust gas is mixed with the combustion gases immediately above the combustion layer in the furnace and after this mixing the temperature of the combustion gases is lowered for the purpose of generating mechanical power and a third portion of the exhaust gases transmits its heat to any external heat consumer or is used to preheat the working fluid of the gas turbine. Air compressed in a compressor K is heated in two heaters L1, L2, by the furnace gases from a grate C which is used to give heat to an external heat consumer without raising steam. The heated air passes to a turbine M which drives the compressor K and a useful output generator N. The exhaust from the turbine M is divided into three parts. The first part is used at 60 as combustion air in the furnace, the second part passes through the pipes 59b, 59b<1> and is mixed with the combustion gases at 61 immediately above the combustion layer on the grate C and a third part passes through a pipe 59c to the air preheater L1 to preheat the working fluid of the gas turbine. The mixed combustion gases and turbine exhaust flow through 80 to the air heater L2. The gases flowing through the heater L2 may be abstracted at 81, mixed with further hot gases and another part of the turbine exhaust in a chamber 652 and returned to the heater at 82. The gases leaving the heater L2 pass through a portion of the heater L1 which is separate from that through which the turbine exhaust flows. This allows the turbine exhaust to be cooled to a lower temperature than the combustion gases. The turbine exhaust gases from the heater L1 may then be used in a heat exchanger B3 to give heat to an external heat consumer. Heat may be given to this consumer by the combustion gases exhausted from the heater L1 and by the portion of the turbine exhaust used as combustion air, in heat exchangers B1, B2. The turbine exhaust gases leaving the heat exchanger B3 may be expanded in a turbine M1, the exhaust temperature of which is so low that it produces a heat pump effect. If desired, a separate heat pump P, Q, R, S may be 'employed, the heat from which is used in a heat consumer H. The heat obtained from cooling the compressor K may also be used in the heat consumer H. Specification 569,441 is referred to.
