Abstract
616,299. Motor vehicles. GOODRICH CO., B. F. April 30, 1946, No. 13069. Convention date, April 30, 1945. [Classes 79 (iv) and 79 (v)] [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXVII] Independently suspended wheels (see Group XXXII) are steered by a hydraulic system comprising for each wheel a piston and cylinder 75, 77 actuated by a vane-type pump 83 driven by the steering wheel. The piston-rod of each piston is pivotally connected to the steering arm 68 of the corresponding wheel, while the upper end of each cylinder is pivotally connected at 80 to the corresponding wheelsupporting arm 60. To ensure balanced operation, the upper ends of cylinders 77, 78 are interconnected by a pipe 86 and restrictor valve 93. A reservoir 95 is connected to the pump through check valves 99, 100. The vehicle frame comprises longitudinal members 20, 21, Fig. 1, cross-members 24, 25 and transverse members 22, 23, the rear transverse member being suitably shaped to avoid fouling other components. The frame is stiffened by corner plates 28, 29, 30, 31 and by upper and lower centre plates 26, 27. Longitudinal engine bearers 32, 33 extend from the front transverse member 22. Longitudinal members 38, 39, extending rearwardly from the member 23 and braced by cross-pieces 40, 41, support the rear wheels.
