Abstract

1473361 Agricultural vehicles G E HOLLAND 31 July 1974 [14 Aug 1973] 33798/74 Heading B7H [Also in Division A1] An implement carrying vehicle has a chassis 12 of triangular configuration in plan with a steerable front wheel 14, a pair of rear wheels 16, and drive means operable by fluid pressure for driving the rear wheels 16. As shown the front wheel 14 is mounted at one end of a rod and sleeve arrangement 18 depending from the chassis 12, the rear wheels 16 being mounted on struts 20 which are adjustably clamped along the chassis cross-bar 22. A diesel engine 28 drives an axially variable displacement pump (not shown) which in turn drives ball and cam hydraulic motors 26 provided for each of the wheels. Steering of the front wheel 14 is effected completely hydraulically by a ram 38 fed via a rotary metering valve (not shown) from a separate hydraulic pump (not shown). Additionally, steering may be assisted by differential drive of the rear wheels 16 which may be effected by varying the exhaust hydraulic fluid flow from the motors 26. A control lever 42 is operable to connect all three motors 26 to the hydraulic pump or to isolate the front wheel motor. Three ground engaging implements 44 are provided, two mounted on the wheel struts 20 and the third mounted on a support 46 depending from the cross-bar 22. The implements each comprise a U-shaped member 48 supporting tyres 50 and supported by pivotal links 45, 56 via a bracket 57 to an arm 58. A spring 68 connected to a lever 60 fast with link 54 maintains the tyres 50 in a ground engaging position. An hydraulic ram (not shown) operated by a pump is provided for pivoting individual levers 60 of each implement for raising and lowering the tyres 50 into and out of ground-engaging positions. Racks (not shown) may be mounted on the side members 24 of chassis 12 to support drums containing liquids such as fertilizers or pesticides. The hydraulic pumps driving the wheel motors 26, the ram 38, and the ram for pivoting the levers 60, are driven by the engine 28.
