[Class 144 (i)] In a machine of the kind described in Specification 566,341, for making tyre casings by winding strip cord material about a rotary drum, means are provided whereby the axis of rotation of the strip-feeding device passes through the geometrical centre of the drum irrespective of the relative obliquity of the two axes. To this end, means are provided for effecting lateral adjustment of the strip-feed axis to compensate for altered inclination of the drum-axis. Means are also provided for varying the relative speeds of rotation of the strip-feed and drum. As shown, the building- drum 13 is mounted on the lower end of a shaft 12 the upper end of which is fitted with a worm-wheel 25 meshing with a worm 26 on a driven shaft 20. The latter is mounted between arms 22 which are vertically-adjustable in a supporting-bracket 8 to vary the inclination of the shaft 12. The tyre-material (in strip form) is fed from a reel 37 on a bracket 35 carried by a vertical shaft 27 which is horizontally-adjustable to ensure its vertical alignment with the centre C of the drum. The strip is led from the reel 37 over guide-rolls 39, 40, the latter being vertically-adjustable for horizontal alignment with the drum-centre. The strip-tension is controlled by means of a spring-loaded brake. The shaft 27 is driven from the main shaft 51 through a worm-gear 34; and, the shaft 12 by chain-and-sprocket gears 60-64 and worm 25. To vary the relative speeds of the rotating drum and the orbital rotation of the reel 37, an idler changespeed gear 57 is fitted in the transmission to the shaft 12.
