Abstract

615,960. Vehicle wheels. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25280. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1945. [Class 144 (i)] A device for forcing a tyre from a fiat-base rim, from which the detachable side-flange at one edge has been removed, comprises a spider 23 carrying arms 24 on which radially-adjustable legs 30 are mounted. Pivoted on the lower ends of the legs are wedge-shaped feet 32 adapted to engage between the tyre-bead and the fixed rim-flange 13. The spider is moved down a threaded spindle 20 on the wheelsupporting base 18 by means of a nut 27 fitted with handles 28. The feet 32 are weighted so as normally to assume the angular position shown in Fig. 1, but are formed with flats 32a to abut mating flats on the legs 30 so as to limit the rocking movement of the feet after the initial separation of the tyre-bead from the rim-flange.
