Abstract
615,485. Load-handling machines. DEHN, S. G. (Minneapolis-Moline Power Implement Co.). June 11, 1946, No. 17487. [Class 78 (iii)] A load-handling device mounted on a tractor comprises an extensible boom extending forwardly from its pivotal mounting on the tractor and supporting at its front end a loadhandling device or carrier, the boom being raised or lowered by poweractuated means on the tractor which includes a lever pivotally mounted on the tractor and connected at one end to the forward portion of the boom for lifting the boom and at the other end having a connection with the boom for effecting extension of the boom as it is being lifted. In the embodiment shown, the device consists of a pair of booms 10 each comprising telescopic sections 11, 12, the section 12 being pivotally mounted on a bracket 14 on the rear axle housing I and the rearward movement of the section 11 on the section 12 being limited by a pin 15 engaging in any one of a plurality of openings in the section 12. The mechanism for raising the booms comprises levers 20, each pivotally mounted at 23 on the tractor and connected to its boom at one end by a chain 19 and at the other by a member 18 comprising telescopic sections 26, 28, the section 26 being pivotally connected at 27 to the lever 20 and the section 28 pivotally connected at 29 to a plate 30 welded to the boom. Telescopic movement of the sections 26, 28 is limited by a pin 31 which may be inserted through any one of a number of holes in the section 26. The levers 20 are raised by rams 34 adjustably connected to the levers at 35 and operating in cylinders pivotally mounted at 42 on the tractor, fluid being supplied to the cylinders by a pump 50. A fork 51, pivotally mounted at 53 on the booms, is normally held in a horizontal position by a latch 54, but pivots downwardly to. dump its load when the latch is released by a trip rod 55. The fork may be replaced by a bucket. Specification 546,650 is referred to.
