Abstract

615,308. Sub-station equipment. NEWTON, E. P. (Ipsophon Patentges Akt.-Ges.). March 20, 1945, No. 7044. [Class 40 (iv)] The equipment provides facilities for a distant subscriber to receive a message previously recorded on a wire and gives him the option of recording a reply or erasing the recorded message. According to the invention he receives a signal at the end of the message and then transmits two impulses if he wishes to reply. If he wishes to erase the message he waits for a second signal and then transmits an impulse. To initiate reproduction relay WD is operated over reproduction circuit Wi13 and held over contact WD56. Relay Z consequently operates over WD57 and through NE starts the driving motor M. Relay VK, which gives forward drive of the record TO, is operated over WD58. When reproduction is finished AN1 is closed by friction arm FA to operate relay T which locks over its second winding.. T releases VK at T47 to stop the record and releases WD at T52. It continues holding Z and mains relay NE, and operates S to cause buzzer SU to signal the subscriber TN through amplifier AV. Thermal relay Th 19 is also energized and its contact 55 subsequently operates C which releases T to cut-off the buzzer and takes over the holding of Z and NE. The subscriber may now send two impulses. The first operates relay JX through amplifier JV, and thereby energizes relay A which locks. Relay B energizes at the end of the impulse when a short circuit through B54 is broken at JX46. The second impulse reoperates JX, followed by F, which locks and releases C. Relay F also operates E to hold Z and energize VK, WU to connect the speech head SPK through amplifier EV, and L to connect the line TN to the amplifier. Relay VK sets the wire running and the message spoken by the subscriber is recorded. If no signal is received relay C is not released but thermal relay contact Th73 energizes D which again connects up S to allow the second buzzer signal to be transmitted. Relay D locks, energizes thermal relay Th21 and holds Z. Contact 89 subsequently energizes U which releases D and S, stops the buzzer SU and holds Z. The subscriber may now obliterate the message by sending two impulses. The first impulse energizes JX over U93 and this energizes A and B as before. The second now operates R which holds Z, releases U, energizes RK, which returns the spool to its starting position, and energizes the obliterating magnet LM. This magnet also holds arm FA mechanically. When the spool reaches its starting position contact AB83 opens and releases Z to stop the motor. Relay U connects up thermal relay Th22 which, if no impulses are received after the second buzzer signal, energizes H at its contact 96. This operates S and thereby gives a final buzzer signal. H remains held until Th22 opens its contact and during this time Z and U are released by H.
