[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Stage lighting is dimmed by variation of a series resistance or inductance 1a which is actuated by a constantly rotating steel drum 8 through electromagnetic clutches 6, 7 and linkwork 4, 5, 2 having a fixed pivot 3. The clutches 6, 7 are energized by switches (not shown) in leads A, B, and the extent of. their movement is controlled by mercury limit switches 9, 10. The speed of rotation of the drum 8 may be controlled and the speed and clutch controls of a number of independent devices may be built into a single control panel.
