613,930. Torsion bars. SCHWENEN, C. S. A. GRUM-. Nov. 28, 1945, No. 32168. Convention date, May 19. [Class 108 (iii)] In a torsion spring of the kind described in Specification 32167/45, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, consisting of two or more torsion bars B-E working in series and disposed side-by-side, the extreme bars B, E of the series being provided at their outer ends with respective load-carrying arms M, N which bear against, and can roll on, or turn relatively to each other at their inner ends, the point at which the inner arm ends bear against each other is placed at the instantaneous centre obtained by fixing one of the arms, temporarily removing the constraint applied by the bearing action at O, and applying a turning couple to the free arm in a plane at right angles to the arms of the bar. The bearing action at O may be provided alternatively by a hinge which may form the suspension means of the spring and the position of the hinge axis is determined in the same manner as for the bearing point in the first construction.
