Abstract

613,064. Disinfecting water waste - preventers. ALSTON, P. W. March 17, 1947, No. 8814/46. [Class 26] Relates to disinfecting and/or deodorizing devices for water-waste-preventing cisterns of the kind in which a receptacle containing treating liquid is wholly or partially immersed in the water in the cistern and is provided with an outlet which is opened or closed by a float valve operated by the rise or fall of the water. Secured to a float 2 which is enclosed in the lower part 4 of a receptacle 1 provided with an air vent and containing the treating liquid is a plug 3 which is provided near its upper end with a diametral passage 10 the right half of which is conical in elevation and which moves in a boss 15 formed in the bottom 6 of the receptacle 1. The top of the plug 3 is provided with a disk 11 and an intervening washer 13, both of larger diameter than the plug, the lower part of the latter being also separated by a washer 18 from a flange 17 on the float 3 to which it is secured. The part 4 is provided with an opening 8 and has secured thereto a heavy or weighted disk 9 so that the whole device remains in an upright position in the cistern. In a modification (Fig. 3), the plug is loaded by a spring 19 retained between the part 6 of the receptacle 1 and a cupped disk 20 clamped between the flange 17 and the plug 3. In another modification the disk 9 is dispensed with and the receptacle is provided with a hook, clamp or clip by which it is hung on the wall of the cistern, a rubber tube being then connected to the vent so that its free end is always above the water in the cistern.
