Abstract

612,702. Vehicle seats, spring supports for. METALASTIK, Ltd., TURNER, R. P., and BROWN TRACTORS, Ltd., D. July 6, 1946. No. 20260. [Class 52 (i)] A seat is mounted on a vehicle by means of a pair of links, movable in parallel, with a rubber unit disposed between the links so that in the normal loaded position of the seat the rubber unit is loaded mainly in shear but, with increasing deflection, the manner of loading changes increasingly from shear to compression and the stiffness rate of the rubber therefore increases: The seat 10 is pivoted to a plate 12 by a pivot 11 and adjustably held by a screw 13. The plate 12 has adjustably secured thereto a bracket 14 which is linked to a bracket 15, fixed to the vehicle, by a pair of links 17 between which pair a rubber unit 40, 41 is secured. The links are of channel section with their channels facing one another the channel section being provided with pairs of ears having inner and outer sleeves 24, 23 to which a rubber bush 25 is bonded. The links are mounted in the forks of the brackets 14, 15 by bolts passing through the inner sleeves 24 and forks of the brackets, relative rotation of these sleeves and the forks being prevented by means of dogs so that pivoting of the links 17 is resisted by the tension of the rubber bushes 25. The rubber unit shown comprises two rubber pads 40, 41 preferably bonded to outer plates and an inner plate 42, the outer plates being secured to the webs of the channel through eyes 37, 45 and 38, 46.
