Abstract

Bactericides are obtained from a substratum in which micro-organisms have lived by drying the substratum, with or without the micro-organisms, preferably by atomization, and then extracting the dry substance thus produced. In obtaining penicillin from a substratum containing it, aluminium hydroxide or silica gel may be added, and the pH of the substratum preferably increased before drying.ALSO:Bactericides are obtained from a substratum in which micro-organisms have lived by drying the substratum, with or without the micro-organisms, preferably by atomization, and then extracting the dry substance thus produced. In obtaining penicillin from the substratum obtained from growing Penicillium notatum on a culture medium consisting of glucose, sodium nitrate, mono potassium phosphate, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, ferrous sulphate, and agar-agar or carragheen, substances, such as aluminium hydroxide or silica gel may be added, and the pH of the substatum is preferably increased before drying.
