Abstract

610,451. Panels; walls; building slabs. CHICK, P. R. April 5, 1946, No. 10609. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] A wall or partition is built up from panels each of which comprises a cellular core E of expanded material housed withi n a rectangular wooden frame F having grooved edges H to form channels for service pipes &c. between adjacent panels. The core is covered with layers of hessian, paper or the like G and these surfaces are covered with a layer of plaster K over which a temporary film of paper may be placed to protect the surface during transit. For an outside wall the film of paper may be replaced by a layer of copper or other metal foil. The plaster layer is rebated along its vertical edges; on assembly, and after adjacent panels have been joined, the rebates are filled with plaster &c. with a strip of hessian &c. embedded therein. The cells may be filled with insulating material. The core is formed by uniting several layers of metal, plaster, compressed paper, cardboard, hardboard or fibre by adhesive applied in lines across the width of the layers, the lines being staggered between alternate layers. Strips are cut longitudinally from the stuck layers each strip being substantially of a width equal to the thickness of the finished panel and these strips are then expanded.
