608,968. Valve closure members. STURGES, R. W., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1946, No. 1515. [Class 135] [Also in Group X] A valve device for heating or ventilating purposes has a casing opening controlled by a number of movable interlocking blades or shutters which in the fully open position of the valve are packed one behind the other with respect to the direction of fluid flow through the opening. The cylindrical casing 1 has opening 2 across which is a diametral web 9. The opening is closed by a series of double sector-shaped blades 3, 4. The edges of the blades 4 are turned over in opposite directions as shown at 5 in Fig. 3 to form interlocking means. The bottom or master blade 3 has only one edge 6 turned over, the other edge 7 being flanged at right angles so that when this blade is turned by a knob 14 on the central spindle 11 it picks up all the other blades and moves them under the web 9. In a modification, a series of shutters with' similar interlocking means are arranged to cover two openings in the circumferential wall of a cylinder closed at one end, the shutters being accommodated between the inner wall of the cylinder and an inner concentric flanged member at each end of the cylinder. The shutters are packed one behind the other under the portions of the cylinder between the two openings, when the valve is fully open.
