Abstract
606,793. Electrolytic treatment of water. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925), Ltd. Feb. 1, 1946, No. 3310. Convention date, Feb. 3, 1945. [Class 41] [Also in Group XVIII] The formation of scale on an electrode-element or anode 10 of a water cooled electron tube &c is prevented by causing the water, in its passage to the cooling chamber 16 to flow in contact with and between a pair of mutually spaced and insulated electrodes 26, 25, anode and cathode respectively, which are arranged one within the other and have applied thereto an electric potential from a dry cell &c. 29, in series with a resistance 291, the cathode 26 also being electrically connected tc said element 10. As shown, the cathode 25 is of tubular form closed at its opposite ends by covers 28, 30 which have axially aligned hollow bosses for connection to the inlet 17 of the chamber 16 and to the water supply pipe 21 and are secured to flanges on the cathode by bolts 34, whereas the anode 26 is of cup-shape having openings such as longitudinal slots 27 for the passage of water and provided with a flange 35 which is clamped between the upper flange of the cathode 25 and the cover 28, with the inter-position of insulating and spacing washers 32, 36, the bolts 34 associated with the cover 28 being provided with insulation 37. The pipe 21 and also the pipe 22 leading from the outlet 18 of the chamber 16 are of rubber, porcelain, &c., and the cooling system may be of the continuously circulating type and include a fan-equipped radiator and water reservoir. Instead of the water - treating apparatus being directly mounted on the element 10, with the cathode 25 electrically connected thereto by the bolts' 34 and cover 28, it may be separately mounted or supported by the porcelain supply pipe 21, in which cases electrical connection between the cathode 25 and element 10 is effected through a separate conductor. The apparatus, together with the battery, resistance and a microammeter, may be housed within a metal box which is mechanically and electrically connected to the element 10, by metal brackets or straps, or is mounted upon a high voltage insulator and connected to the said element by a separate conductor. Specification 487,595 is referred to.
