Abstract
606,356. Thrashing-machines. CASS, J. A., and KAHN, W. Nov. 29, 1945, No. 32235. Convention date, July 16. [Class 58] In an apparatus for thrashing shell-enclosed or podded crops such as beans and peas, converging conveyer belts 3, 4 form the opposite sides of the bottom of a feed hopper (not shown) and pass over terminal rollers 5, 7. A rubbing drum 25 provided in its surface with short studs 27 is mounted close to the rollers 5, 7 so that the pods or shells held between them come in contact with the drum as it rotates. The partly disintegrated material drops into concave 36 extending the full length of the drum and provided with rubber strips where final disintegration takes place and then the kernels and trash are sieved and winnowed. Tension spring 20 holds roller 5 resiliently towards roller 7 which is adjustable by having the bearings at each end of shaft 22 supported by screw threaded adjusting eye bolts 23 co-acting with brackets 24 fixed to the walls. The driving rollers 6, 8 of the conveyers are driven by an endless chain 9 on chain wheels 10. 11 and a tensioning chain wheel 12. The drum and conveyers rotate at relatively slow speeds e.g. 340 ft./min. and 20 ft./min. respectively.
