Abstract
606,161. Indicating-apparatus. TYE, L. C. Feb. 1, 1946, No. 3226. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XIX] An adjusting and indicating mechanism for wireless receivers and similar instruments comprises an elongated screw or worm which drives a worm-wheel and rotates the moveable parts of a tuning condenser or similar component, an indicator consisting of a part nut travels along the same screw or worm engaging only one side of it, so that it is able to pass the worm wheel and give a rectilinear indication of the rotation applied to the condenser. The Figures show a worm 7 which is driven by knob 24 or fly-wheel 25 and engages with a worm-wheel 9 mounted on a shaft 10 which is journalled in an adjustable bearing 11. The worm also imparts rectilinear movement to a part nut 19 which is attached to a bent strip 17 thus moving carriage 14 to which pointer 13 is attached along the guide rod 15. The worm is mounted in a bearing 8a which has a limited sliding movement as shown in Fig. 3. The bent strip 17 which constitutes a spring ensures that the worm 7 is in close engagement with both the part nut 19 and the wormwheel 9. The bevel gear 20 is a a spring fit on the worm 7 so that the coupling will slip if the tuning knob continues to be rotated when the limit of movement of spindle 10 has been reached. Fine adjustment of the worm 7 is indicated by a vernier scale 27 on a drum 26.
