Abstract

605,725. Fluid pressure-operated brakes. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and BRACKENBURY, A. G. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23710. [Class 103 (i)] In order to avoid reactions in the axle and bolster springs of a railway vehicle bogie due to the brake cylinde pressure, the brake cylinder 1 i mounted in trunnions 12 on the bogie and the movement of the brake cylinde piston-rod 7 is transmitted to the brake blocks 15 through bell-crank levers 5, 6 and horizontally disposed pull and/or thrust rods 8, 9, and the brackets 3 supporting the bell-crank 5, 6 are reinforced by a tension member 4. The brake cylinder 1 is preferable in the longitudinal centre plane of the bogie and, as shown, the brakes on one axle are operated by a double thrust rod 9 comprising two rods laterally spaced on either side of a single tension-rod 8 operating the brakes on the other axle (not shown). The thrust rods 9 are connected by a yoke to the bell-crank 6 and to the limbs of a forked lever 13 pivoted at 14 to the bogie and linked to the brake blocks 15, suspended by links 16 from the bogie.
