Abstract
Polyvinyl chloride is obtained by polymerising in any known way, vinyl chloride obtained by the pyrolysis of pure 1,2-dichlorethane at temperatures below 540 DEG C. and purified by distillation preferably shortly before polymerisation. The dichlorethane should be such that its boiling point deviates from that of the pure compound by less than 0.1 DEG C. and its refractive index is from 1.4449-1.4452. The vinyl chloride is purified until it contains no more than 0.3 per cent of substances, such as vinyl acetylene, with a higher boiling point than vinyl chloride. The dichlorethane may be heated over chamotte or activated carbon. Fillers, stabilisers, plasticisers and colouring materials may be added before or during polymerisation.ALSO:Pure vinyl chloride is obtained by the pyrolysis of pure 1,2-dichlorethane at temperatures below 540 DEG C. and purified bt distillation, preferably shortly before polymerization.
