Abstract

605,582. Endless-chain elevators. PARKER, Ltd., F., and PARKER, F. W. Nov. 2, 1945, No. 29121. [Class 78 (i)] A portable hoist comprises a mast furnished with an endless chain passing round upper and lower chain wheels, carriages presenting horizontal load platforms pivotally suspended from the chain and means on the carriages which engage guides for the spaced runs of the chain and prevent swinging of the carriages during ascent and descent. In the builder's hoist shown, the mast is of box skeleton construction and is mounted on a wheeled undercarriage 27. In front, and at either side, the mast has pairs of spaced angles 6 forming the chain guides which terminate short of the upper and lower chain wheels 9 and 13. There are four carriages, each comprising a vertical rear frame 16 pivotally suspended at 17 from the chain and a short projecting load platform 18. Spaced upper rollers on the rear of the frame engage behind the rear edges of the chain.guide angles 6, whilst a single lower roller 21 engages the front faces of the angles and has a flange or flanges engaging between them. The carriages are steadied as they pass over the upper chain wheel by rotating arms 22, or a disc, driven from the wheel. During their passage over the lower wheel they are supported by a back plate 23, whilst a guide 24 controls their approach to the chain guide 6. The mast is pivoted at 25 between uprights 26 on the undercarriage 27, and can be lowered on to further uprights 33 for transport, a lock 31 securing it in its collapsed position. A hand winch 39 is provided for raising the mast into its vertical position for use. The lower chain-wheel 13 is driven by an engine 42 on the undercarriage, the drive being through a worm gear 47 and a dog clutch 48 which separates when the mast is collapsed. Material is loaded on to the carriages by means of a roller conveyer 50 which can be attached to the undercarriage and is gapped to allow passage of the carriages so that they can pick up material loaded on to pallets. This conveyer can be folded double for easy stowage, and has pivoted supporting struts at its outer end. A similar unloading conveyer 58 is attached to a bracket 59 which can be moved up and down an upright 60 to the required position by means of a winding drum 61.
