605,242. Cams and tappets. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. Dec. 18, 1945, No. 34330. Convention date, Feb. 9. [Class 80 (iii)] In a cam and tappet mechanism in which the surface of the cam 8 is formed of parts of different curvature, a pivoted slipper plate 7 is provided on the tappet body 1 having a surface 9 of a curvature corresponding to the least curvature of the cam surface, so that a surface contact is obtained with this part of the cam surface whilst line contact only is affected at the other parts of greater curvature. In the case of a cam having straight lifting sides the surface of the slipper plate is flat. The slipper may be universally pivoted by a ball- and-socket arrangement.
