Abstract
604,818. Detectors. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 28, 1945, No. 35131. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1943. [Class 40 (v)] A mixing circuit comprises a pair of parallel coaxial lines with detectors arranged at opposite points of an electrical mid-point on the lines, a first frequency being fed between the mid-point and earth, a second frequency being applied to the tuned circuit comprising the lines. The rods 11, 12 tuned by shorting bars 15 and housed in a casing 13 with a dividing wall 14, constitute a line of three-quarters wavelength, the line being supported by insulators 17. The input from an aerial is fed over entry 22 to a quarter-wave stub 30, conductor 34 feeding energy in-phase to the line. Local oscillations, applied over conductor 20 to a tap one-quarter wavelength from the end of the line feed clips 42, 43 in push-pull since they are located a further quarter wavelength along the line. Each clip is attached to crystals 40, 41, the outer conductors resting in clips 45 insulated by thin mica washers 47 from the casing 13 which act as byepass capacitors at the signal frequency. The clips 45 are connected to the intermediate frequency amplifier. The input coupling may be varied by sliding the coaxial fitting 22 vertically and the tuning of the stub varied by rotation of knob 32 which moves the threaded rod 30 vertically, the rod engaging in a key-way to prevent rotation.
