Abstract
604,788. Driving means for cycles. PRESTWICH, J. A. Dec. 3, 1945, No. 32642. [Classes 79 (iii)] In cycles driven through a friction drum in contact with the tyre, the periphery of the drum is provided with a plurality of recesses closed at their inner ends and adapted to be closed at the mouth by contact with the tyre. As shown the drum A has a concave periphery D formed with a series of recesses B whose ends C are closed, e.g. as formed by a drill. The recesses are suitably spaced and staggered and 'when the drum is in driving contact with the tyre the recesses provide a suction effect, thus creating better adhesion. Specification 592,878 is referred to.
