Abstract
Liquid starch compositions are made by heating a mixture of starch and water, e.g., 12oz. of maize starch and 1 U.S. gallon of water, at a temperature and for a time sufficient to cause rupture of the starch granules, cooling the mixture sufficiently to cause its gelatinization, adding a blueing agent before or after the cooling, and, preferably after allowing the mixture to stand for 24-72 hr., converting the mixture into fine particles in the presence of air, e.g., by passage through a strainer or an atomizer, there being added 5-40g. of pine oil and 2-30g. of boric acid per U.S. gallon of mixture before the conversion or between two successive conversions.
