Abstract

603,818. Feeding cylindrical articles from hoppers. FISCHER BEARINGS CO., Ltd., and MILLS, J. P. Oct. 31, 1945, No. 28824. [Class 78 (i)] In apparatus for feeding articles from a hopper of the kind in which the hopper is provided with a mechanically-driven rotating shoot or delivery tube through which the articles are fed in succession, the shoot is provided at its upper end with a flared or bell-mouthed funnel part which rotates within the lower portion of the hopper to prevent jamming of the articles. In the embodiment shown, rollers 13 are fed from a hopper 1 into a shoot.3 provided with a funnel 4. The shoot is carried by a sleeve 5 which is rotatably mounted in supporting members 2, 6 and provided with a collar 9 engaging two friction wheels 10 rotated by a friction pinion 11 on a shaft 12 driven from the machine to which the rollers are to be delivered. The funnel is of convex section, the radius of curvature of which lies within the limits of half to one-and-a-half times the radius of the rollers. A projection 14 on the funnel acts as an agitator.
