Abstract

602,921. Optical range-finders. KODAK, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1945, No. 34577. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1942. [Class 97 (i)] The range-finder casing resiliently carries a pair of handles for manual support, the various adjusting knobs being located adjacent the handles. In a coincidence finder, the handles 6, 7, Fig. 2, are carried at either end of a channelshaped member 8 of resilient material attached to the casing 1 only by central screws 9. Light from the windows A, B, Figs. 6, 7, is reflected respectively by mirror 16 and semi-transparent mirror 19, the two overlapping images being formed in the object plane 21 of an eyepiece 5 by lens 20 and erecting prisms 22, 23. The mirror 16 which is adjusted to effect coincidence is mounted in vertical pivots 30 on a member 29 which may be adjusted about horizontal pivots 32 by a screw 35 to centre the image correctly. An arm 25 pivoted at 26 to the carrier 28 of the mirror has a screw 131, Fig. 7, at its other end engaging a cam 129 on a shaft 128 operated by knob 127, Fig. 2, to effect coincidence. A range scale 80 illuminated by a lamp energized by batteries carried within the handles 6, 7 is rendered visible in the eyepiece by prisms 83, 84 and a movable light filter is located between the eyepiece 5 and reticle plane 21. To provide a wide angle of view when initially sighting a target, an aperture C, Fig. 6, intermediate between A and B contains a negative lens 60 directing light via semi-transparent mirror 62 and lens 63 to the image plane 21. The mirror 62 is pivoted at 66 and may be moved into and out of its operative position by a cord 71 operated by a lever 72 having an arm 74 adjacent the handle 7. The mirror 19 is mounted in a holder 18 arranged as described in Specification 602,920 to permit adjustment by knobs 55, 56, Fig. 2, to compensate for changes of temperature and other errors.
