[Class 60] A grinding-apparatus incorporates a supporting structure, a grinding-wheel supported by said structure, a carrying means for the work which also is supported by the said structure and which supports the work so that it is always at right angles to the plane of the grinding-wheel with the axis of the work contained within a horizontal plane which is coincident with or substantially coincident with the horizontal plane containing the axis of the grinding-wheel, means for moving the grinding-wheel towards and away from the work and a guide means which is adjustable relatively to the grinding-wheel and which is adjustable also towards and away from the work and which is located in or substantially in the plane of the grinding-wheel and adjacent to the grinding edge and on which the underside of the work being ground is caused to bear throughout a traverse and so ensure that the edge being dealt with shall be presented accurately to the grinding-wheel always. Between coaxial centres 14a, 14b rotatable and longitudinally movable in a frame 13 is mounted , the rotary bladed part of a lawn mower. A grinding-wheel 20 is carried by a bracket 18 pivotally mounted on a bar 17a in the main frame-work, the grinding-wheel being adjusted to and from the work bv a threaded rod 24 and held in its adjusted position by links 22 attached to the grinding-wheel casing 21. An electric motor 28 driving the grinding-wheel through a belt 29 is suspended on struts 27 pivotally mounted on the bar 17a. A spatulately headed finger 32, Fig. 6, adjustable vertically in an arm 31 angularly adjustable on the bracket 18, engages the underside of a blade 16b being ground to keep the said blade in contact with the grinding-wheel 20. In a modification, the work is mounted between two end plates sliding on rails on the main frame.
