Abstract

602,086. Caps for discharge tubes. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Dec. 27, 1945, No. 34968. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1944. [Class 38 (i)] A device for threading the leadin wires 9 of an electron tube 21 into hollow pins 7 mounted on a base 1 by eyelets 16 and separated by barriers 8, comprises a hollow fixture 12 in which the base is first plugged, said fixture housing a plate 17 caused to mover vertically therein by a piston 23 and carrying hollow needles 13 which project through the pins. With the plate in its uppermost position, the leads 9 are threaded into the needles, whereupon the base is slipped upwardly and over the end of the tube 21 the leads then projecting through the pins 7. The needles are then withdrawn by lowering plate 17 and the tube and base removed for baking. The leads and needles are preferably of unequal length to avoid confusion. The base 27 of the fixture 12 carries plungers 26 which pass inside the needles when the latter are lowered and which in addition to serving as guides therefor, also serve to remove any of the cement ring 28 on the base which may have lodged therein. During the threading operation, the fixture 12 and tube 21 may be supported on an inclined block 14 and support 20 respectively on a table 15 (Fig. 1). The device may also be used for threading cable leads into a plug-in base.
