Abstract
In a method in which parallel reinforcing wires placed under tension are arranged in long production lines and the moulds are run along tracks in the lines whilst embracing the wires, the wires are heated, after concrete has been placed in the moulds, by passing electric current through the wires. Heat is thereby applied to the concrete to assist in the setting and hardening thereof. By regulating the heating, relative movement between the wires and the concrete being bonded thereto may be minimised. The current may pass through the wires from end to end, or may be applied to the wires in the middle of a series of moulds. The current is applied before or during tensioning of the wires. The moulds may be insulated from the wires. Supplementary heating, e.g. steam pipes arranged immediately below the moulds, may be employed.
