600,664. Rubbing-pads. STEVENS, A. H. (Sterling Tool Products Co.). Dec. 20, 1944, No. 25556. [Class 60] A rubbing-pad with an abrasive strip secured at one end of a backing plate and tensioned at the other end, includes a flattened hollow tumbler urged by a spring to press the strip against the backing plate, and a slotted fixed guide near the end of the tumbler shaped to permit the insertion of a key and to limit oscillation. On to the back plate 5, which has a felt pad 14 cemented to its bottom face, U- shaped spring keepers are riveted to confine a tubular tumbler 17 which is held against axial movement by guide members 18 with L-shaped guide slots 19. A key is inserted in the slot 19 to turn the member 17 from a position where it presses and tensions the abrasive strip 21 against the back plate to a horizontal position when the strip can be removed. The L-shaped slots 19 also limit the oscillation of the key so that damage to the spring keepers is avoided. Specification 578,027 is referred to.
