Abstract
600,508. Pulse counting circuits. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Jan. 27, 1945, No. 2189. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1944. [Class 40 (vi)] [Also in Group XIX] In a counting ring, a number of trigger-connected' pairs of valves are arranged with connections between the valves such that one pair only responds to a pulse applied to all the valves, priming another pair to respond to the next pulse. Valves 0-4 and 5-9 are arranged in pairs, the anode of valve 0 being connected over resistance 118 and condenser 119 to the grid of valve 5, while the anode of valve 5 is connected over resistance 107 and condenser 108 to the grid of valve 0, the grid of each valve being connected over resistance 94 to a large negative potential. The grid of valve 0 is also connected over resistance 134 to the anode of valve 4, the grid of valve 5 being connected over a resistance to the anode of valve 9. By opening the switches 88 temporarily in the screen grid leads of valves 5-9, the valves 0-4 are rendered conducting (shown by shading) prior to the receipt of a train of pulses. A negative pulse applied over terminal 105 is fed over coupling condensers to the grids of all the valves, being ineffective on the non- conducting valves 5-9. The grids of the conducting valve 1-4 are connected over resistances to the anodes of non-conducting - valves but the grid of valve 0 is connected over resistance 134 to the anode of valve,4 with the result that the grid of valve 0 is less positive than the grids of valves 1-4. The negative pulse is therefore effective in reversing the state of the pair of valves 0, 5 in preference to any other pair. The grid of valve 5, due to the connection to the anode of valve 9 has less negative potential than the valves 6-9, thereby aiding the triggering operation. By employing a switch with two arms for sensing the potential of corresponding electrodes of different valves, the state of the ring may be determined and an indicating device operated. Specification 600,503 is referred to.
