Abstract

600,340. Feedwater heaters. RYLANDS, J. R., PARRIS, C. W., and JENKINSON, J. R. Nov. 13, 1945, No. 30318. [Class 64(i)] In a feedwater heater for steam boilers, plain steel tubes 2, either with or without an exterior corrosion - resisting covering of such thickness that the exterior face temperature of the coating is not materially above the tube wall temperature, are used in the higher temperature part of the heater where high surface temperatures would aggravate the hard and intractable character of the deposit from the hot gases, and extended surface tubes 1, i.e. tubes having gills, fins or other projections attached to them or cast metal sleeves with or without gills, fins or other projections, shrunk on or otherwise attached to the steel tubes on the gas-swept side, are used in the lower temperature part of the heater to reduce external sulphuric acid corrosion. The plain steel tubes may have a coating of a silicone or other heat and corrosion resisting plastic. Specifications 200,060, [Class 64(i)], 475,526, 475,540, 492,108 and 501,202 are referred to.
