Abstract
<PICT:0600288/III/1> <PICT:0600288/III/2> The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a self-propelled machine for spreading varnishes, solutions and lacquers upon surfaces, comprising a storage tank 1, a screw 4 operating in a shoot 3 for controlling the discharge rate of the material and a shoot consisting of sections 5 and 51. The section 51 is pivotally connected to the vehicle frame 8 as well as to the section 5, the free end of which is connected to a carriage 9 mounted on transverse rails 101, 102. The carriage is moved transversely of the machine when a pad 141 on the end of a piston-rod of a piston 13 engages a chain 11. The movement of the piston 13 is controlled by compressed air passing through a valve 17, the setting of which is controlled by a snap-action cam and a lever mechanism 18 operated by the carriage 9. The thickness of the distributed strip of material is adjusted according to the inclination of a board which extends the width of the machine, whilst a scraper and roller may be attached to the rear of the machine. In a modification, the shoot may consist of a single section, the free end of which moves in an arcuate path. In a further modification, a short inclined board may move transversely with the shoot and may be moved rapidly in a direction at right angles to the length of the strip when the shoot arrives at the end of the transverse travel in order to allow for the spreading of the next strip. The above-mentioned use of such a machine does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
