Abstract

600,236. Suction cleaners. DOHERTY, B., and DOHERTY, J. Dec. 21, 1945, Nos. 34674/45 and 22974/46. [Class 8 (i)] A vacuum cleaner nozzle is constructed wholly or substantially of transparent material and is provided with means for illuminating that part of the carpet or the like being cleaned, lying beneath the nozzle mouthpiece. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the upper part of a nozzle L is in the form of a magnifying lens of glass quartz or plastic and light from a tubular lamp M mounted in a casing R is transmitted to the nozzle interior through a window W. In a modification, a lamp casing R<1>, Fig. 3, encircles a transparent nozzle tube T, and light from a lamp M<1> is reflected. from the bevelled surface of a metal extension E so as to be repeatedly internally reflected by the walls of the tube T into the nozzle mouth which is roughened at Z, Z to facilitate the escape of light into the nozzle interior. C, C are air-cooling channels.
