Abstract

599,900. Mixing-machines. NAUTA, J. E. Nov. 16, 1945, Nos. 30772 and 30773. Convention dates, Nov. 13, 1939, and April 10, 1940. [Class 86] Pulverized material such as flour is mixed by conveying it from the bottom to the top of a container 1, Fig. 1, and allowing it to fall back again, by means of a screw 5 on a shaft 4 mounted with its lower end centrical and its upper end eccentrical within the chamber 1. The upper end of the shaft 4 is rotatably mounted in a crank arm 3 rigid with a shaft 2 which is rotated to revolve the screw about the vertical longitudinal axis of the chamber 1. The lower end of the shaft 4 is connected by a ball and socket or a universal joint 6 to a rotary shaft 7 which is driven to rotate the screw 5 on its own axis. The screw 5 is disposed hear the sides of the mixing receptacle and the latter may be formed with a conical wall to which the screw 5 is parallel. The shaft 7 may be provided with a stirring arm 11. In an alternative construction, the mixing receptacle comprises a cylindrical upper part 12, Fig. 2, and a conical lower part 13 ; and the mixing screw consists of a part 14 parallel to the wall 12 and a part 15 parallel to the wall 13. The rotary shaft 20 carrying the screw 14 is supported in a bearing 19 by a crank arm 18 rigid with a rotary shaft 16 driven by a bevel gearing 24. The shaft 20 is connected by a ball-andsocket joint to a bush 22 which carries the screw 15 and which is rotatable about a shaft 23 rigid with the shaft 16, so that the screws 14, 15 move around with the shaft 16. The screws 14, 15 are rotated about their own axes by a driving gear 29 on a bush 28 rotatable about the shaft 16 and carrying a sprocket 27 coupled by a chain 26 to a sprocket 25 on the shaft 20. In a further modification, the shaft 16 is replaced by two driving shafts passing through the upper and lower chamber walls respectively. The lower shaft is connected by a universal coupling to the shaft carrying the screw 15 and rotates the screws 14, 15 about their own axes, whilst the latter are revolved about the axis of the upper shaft by a crank arm driven by that shaft.
