Abstract

599,454. Hydraulic actuation of switches. MORRISON, A. C., and MORRISON (ENGINEERS), Ltd., A. C. Aug. 27, 1946, No. 22231/45. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXIX] Operating mechanism for, e.g. an electric vehicle controller, has a non-return valve 9, 11 between transmitting and receiving pistons 7, 2 to retard the flow of liquid in one direction, but permit unrestricted flow in the reverse direction. A lever 14 and a pedal 18 are pivoted at 15 and biased together by a spring 17 so that when the pedal, is rotated clockwise the lever 14 follows it with lost motion and actuates the piston 7 whereby oil in the cylinder 6 is forced slowly to the pistons 2 operating the switchgear, via a pipe capillary tube 11, but when the pedal 18 is released the valve 9 permits a spring 19 to return the pistons 2, 7, immediately. A pin 13 limits opening movement of the ball, and a pin 20 secured to the pedal limits clockwise rotation of the lever 14. A reservoir 12 replaces oil-leakage. Means may be provided to secure notch-to-notch snap-action of the controller.
