Abstract

598,953. Mattresses &c. BOYD, J. D. Nov. 11, 1944, Nos. 22275/44 and 5631/45. [Class 52(iv)] A spring interior mattress or the like comprises an assemblage of capped springs secured to the innermost plies of a set of plies of upholstered pads which are connected tc one another by removable fasteners, the mattress being encased in a cover. The outermost rows of coiled springs 17, having caps 16, are attached by press fasteners 18, each penetrating a hole 19 in a cap, to members 13, 14 inserted in pockets 11, 12 formed from the selvages of the coverings on the innermost plies 10 of the plies of upholstered pads, the pockets being turned under the pad 10, the projecting ends of the strips being secured together and the plies being fastened together by cuff-link fasteners 21. The remainder of the capped springs are attached to the pads 10 by press fasteners 18<1> in central holes in the caps. A different type of spring 22 may be used at the corners. Fig. 6 shows a construction in which the members 13, 14 are dispensed with and a two-part removable cover 23 is attached to the outermost upholstered pads by press fasteners 24, the abutting edges 25 of the cover being fastened by a sliding clasp fastener 26. Specification 586,765 is referred to, and Specification 586,757 also is referred to in the second Provisional Specification.
