Abstract

598,273. Measuring cubical contents. ROSIN INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH CO., Ltd., and DEUTSCH, W. Sept. 4, 1945, No. 22762. [Class 106 (i)] Apparatus for measuring the volume of a powder or porous body comprises a mercury manometer 1, one limb of which is connected to. either one or two chambers 4, 6, one of which contains the sample. The chambers are exhausted by a vacuum pump connected to a pipe 11, the vacuum being measured by the manometer. Cock 5 is closed and cock 9 is turned to vent the chamber 6 to atmosphere. The cock 9 is then turned to. seal the chamber 6 from pump and atmosphere and the cock 5 is opened to equalize the pressures in the chambers 4, 6. The resultant indication of the manometer is a measure of the volume of the sample. The chambers 4, 6 may be reversed in position.
